Oomori Japanese Kitchen is a popular Japanese restaurant in Saskatoon with two locations — one near 8th Street (1202 Emerson Ave Unit 110) and another in the University Heights area. Known for its fresh sushi, ramen, and Japanese fusion dishes, Oomori needed a robust online ordering website to match its modern dine-in experience.

The goal was to provide a unified platform that serves both stores, supports complex ordering logic (like different menus for each location), and enables digital promotions such as lunch specials and daily featured items. Additionally, the owner wanted a website that could scale and serve as a base for future marketing campaigns.

The Challenge

Prior to this project, Oomori lacked a proper digital infrastructure for handling online orders, especially one that could accommodate multi-location support. Challenges included:
-A need for location-specific menus and pricing rules on a shared domain.
-Ensuring customers can easily identify and order from the nearest location.
-Implementing time-based promotions (e.g., lunch specials only available during specific hours and days).
-Streamlining order notifications and printing for both branches.
-Building a backend that allows restaurant staff to easily manage product availability, opening hours, delivery zones, and promotions.

SCOPE OF WORK

Our team at YES TECH provided end-to-end managed services for Oomori’s online presence, including:

1. Website Development & Infrastructure

  • Built a custom WooCommerce-based ordering site using WordPress with WooCommerce Food Plugin.
  • Designed a mobile-first responsive UI matching Oomori’s branding and aesthetics.
  • Integrated Google Maps API for real-time distance calculation, helping customers choose the nearest store.
  • Provided free setup for domain, hosting, SSL, and business email.

2. Multi-Location Online Ordering System

  • Each location maintains its own menu, business hours, and delivery policy.
  • Customers are prompted to select their location at the start of the order process.
  • Backend allows staff from each store to update their own menu and product availability independently.

3. Time-Based Promotions & Menu Logic

  • Developed rule-based controls to show/hide items based on date and time, enabling:
    • Lunch Specials (Mon–Fri, 11:00 am–2:00 pm)
    • Daily Featured Items (e.g., “Wednesday Sushi Set”)
  • Implemented limited-time discounts based on weekday scheduling, increasing weekday lunchtime orders.

4. In-Store Order Notification System

  • Deployed YES TECH’s proprietary tablet-based Order Manager App at both locations.
  • Connected to a thermal receipt printer to automatically print online orders.
  • Ensured reliable order alert and tracking without needing staff to constantly check emails or dashboards.

5. Ongoing Website Management & Support

  • Weekly updates to menu items, pricing, images, and store information.
  • Free development of new site features (e.g., coupons, email marketing modules).
  • Technical support to ensure continuous uptime and performance.
